Overview, client’s needs, and challenges:

Our client is a well-known consultancy in the London Market Insurance, and was commissioned by the end client, an Insurance service provider to help deliver a struggling Brexit solution.  ARUVI partnered with the client in defining and delivering the testing needs on this project.

The project’s objective was to ensure the continuity of premiums and claims processing post Brexit.  The immovable deadline was regulator driven and it was not practically feasible to deliver an automated solution within the deadline; hence the project was planned to be delivered in two phases.  Phase 1 was a manual solution making changes to the business processes, impacting only the business operations users and phase 2 was an automated solution making changes to the IT systems.

Testing challenge was that both phases were to be progressed in parallel, however, there was a lack of robust test strategy and capability gaps in the testing team.

ARUVI’s Solution:

ARUVI quickly identified that each phase required different set of testing skillsets and had largely different test objectives.  We defined the test strategy to be followed for both phases of the project, and clearly defined the test objectives of each phase.  We did this by conducting workshops with project SMEs, business users and other relevant stakeholders.  Risk based test approach was proposed and adopted as time was the immovable constraint on this project to meet the regulatory requirements.  As the phase 2 was making changes to several IT systems that were in place for decades, the technical challenge was deemed high and defects were expected; a robust defect management process was defined upfront.

Outcome and Benefits:

ARUVI defined an appropriate solution taking into consideration of client’s needs and constraints.  Phase 1 was delivered on time; Phase 2 faced few issues and delays being a technically challenging project.  However, our regular communication to stakeholders on progress, issues, and potential risks, enabled them to share reliable updates to their end customer and helped boost their trustworthiness.  End client gained higher confidence on the quality of solution delivered.
