Overview, client’s needs, and challenges:

Our client, a well-known consultancy in the London Market Insurance was commissioned by the end client, an Insurance service provider to help define a strategy for a visionary programme.  ARUVI partnered with the client in defining and delivering the testing needs on this project.

The end client’s vision was to develop new systems and processes to eventually replace the legacy premiums and claims processing.  The client wanted to be able to deliver demonstrable outcome to their end customer on a regular basis and hence SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) was adopted as the delivery methodology.  However, SAFe was new to the end client and they had no previous experience working with this methodology.

Testing challenge was that SAFe framework does not explain how testing fits within it in greater detail.  A lot of quality related evidence that will be expected for by the stakeholders were not catered for in SAFe.  There was a lack of clarity and steer on what testing was to be expected and how it would fit within the overall SAFe methodology.

ARUVI’s Solution:

Having had experience working with the end client, ARUVI had a view of client’s expectations.  We then defined the testing strategy encompassing the approach, testing’s role within DoD (Definition of Done), and defect management processes within SAFe.  This was ratified in several workshops with SMEs and stakeholders and feedback and/or concerns were gathered.  The strategy was further refined to address the concerns raised.  This cycle of ratification/feedback gathering/refinement was iterated to obtain the stakeholder’s buy in to the strategy.

Outcome and Benefits:

ARUVI’s test strategy helped bridge the end client’s expectations that were vastly driven from experience with V-model, to the SAFe methodology.  All the major concerns raised by stakeholders based on previous shortcomings were addressed within the strategy without compromising on the essence of SAFe.  The strategy gives the end client a significant advantage in comparison to their previous deliveries, as this allows them to deliver proven qualitative releases of the solution more frequently.
